Typically I would rather not discuss city operations on fb, but it seems however, times are changing and this could be a good way to share some information with citizens. I have seen recent discussions about city operations were it seems citizens do not have all the facts. Therefore, in the spirit of better communication, I will try to visit fb a little more often so I may be able to address some of the issues. Most recently citizens are wondering about our crews clearing the roads after a snow event. Our policy at the DPS is to clear main roads first then move onto secondary, or subdivision streets. Last night RPD contacted our crews to clear roads as the officers on the roads had noticed road conditions worsening around 8 pm. Employees were called back into work to start clearing city roads. Because of the drifting last night, crews were forced to continue clearing our main roads so that the morning commute was safe for residents. Safety regulations require that after a certain amount of hours on the road, drivers are forced to have down time. This meant that crews who had plowed the city streets all night (after working a complete shift yesterday) had to be sent home early this morning. Please be assured that your plow drivers are very dedicated to clearing your streets and take pride in the getting the job done and would have continued plowing, however for the safety of our employees we must adhere to these regulations. I apologize if some secondary streets were not cleared today and assure you that as soon as crews return to work, we will address them. If residents wish to add some streets that require attention please comment here. I would however request that some refrain from negative or bashing comments. Please contact my office or come visit us at the DPS so that we may resolve any negative experience first hand. We want to make city services the best that we can for you.
