Typing up a report to my union brothers talking about why the ILWU - TopicsExpress

Typing up a report to my union brothers talking about why the ILWU left the AFL-CIO. Many of my non-union, but politically involved friends have asked what this means (and between the lines, how it affects them). In a nutshell, the ILWU saw no benefit to being part of an organization that stood idle while other unions raided our jurisdiction. The bigger picture is that the union movement can no longer be viable if unions continually try to add to their ranks by taking from other unions instead of organizing the millions of unorganized. In my lifetime, union density has dropped from 26% to 11%. Meanwhile, the middle class wanes and every year the ownership class grabs a larger slice of the pie. Greed, not communism or Al-Qaida, is what will sink the United States of America. There always needs to be a balance, and in my experience, the only thing that can balance greed, is not a politician, but a group of people large enough to scare the politician to legislate that greed. The Democratic Party is not that organization or group. And it may not be the AFL-CIO. But some thing has to fight for the working class and keep America strong.
