“T’was the night before Christmas…” I think Joseph and - TopicsExpress

“T’was the night before Christmas…” I think Joseph and Mary might have had an expectation that their child was coming… convenient or not… but aside from that who else knew, had an inkling, that life was about to miraculously change? I don’t think the “shepherds keeping their sheep” had any idea that the sky, their hearts and minds were about to light up with “the glad tidings of good news for all people!” I don’t think the Wise men had any idea they were about to find the Messiah-King… they were in the wrong city… asking for directions. And because there was no evening news or internet service out there in the hills of Bethlehem, Simeon and Anna couldn’t have known that the years they had waited and hoped and prayed for the expectation of their people’s Messiah-Savior was about to come to an end! “T’was the night before Christmas” and what were they expecting? On the other side. I wonder what was happening the night before Christmas that was “unexpectedly happening” just for the sake of keeping anyone from sensing the expectation of God’s presence? Who’s dinner got burnt because everyone was out chasing loose sheep past dark? Who’s camels were biting and spitting on the last change of clean clothing because they were tired of their long journey from the east? What about the guy running the local motel six who kept getting distracted from his duties by people knocking on the door long after he blew the porch light out? “T’was the night before Christmas” and what was unexpectedly happening to keep them from any expectation of the miracle of Christmas? What are you expecting, right now, in your heart of hearts, from the God who gave us such a powerful commemoration of impossibilities becoming a new, instant, reality? And what might be in your way, today, maybe hours from now, a word, an event, a crisis, long lines, a mechanical breakdown, a drain on energy, a family skirmish, a missing gift, a last minute detail that won’t go away (but could only take a creative moment to meet), things happening to keep you from the beauty, joy and expectation of God doing something powerful, materializing something impossible, providing some new reality for you this Christmas? Expect big! Don’t let anything get in the way! Renew yourself! Multiple times today, if necessary, to keep yourself open and sensitive to the “great things He has done” and His yearning to birth more of His life in you! It’s going to be a very busy day for many people, and a lot can happen to distract us, but expect the skies to burn bright over you! Expect good news of great joy to repeatedly explode in your heart! After all, “T’was the day… just before the miracle of life hit earth!”
