T’was the night before our Mile Hi Event, The Barn was quiet, no horses stirring, not even a hint. Haybags and buckets had been hung in the stalls with care in hopes our partners would surely get their full share. Barrel racers were nestled in and snug in their beds, As visions of awesome runs, fat pay checks, and prizes ran thru their heads. We had just finalized the draw & headed to the trailer for the night, When we saw the barn fill with light! Out on the roof of the arena there arose such a clatter, We sprang from our trailer to see what was the matter. When what to our wondering eyes should appear, But our Mile Hi crew with a great big cheer! They were dressed in denim from their head to their feet, and their clothes were tarnished and dirty---no doubt from rake teeth! Their shirts all matched and were Mile Hi blue, Nothin’ like a well dressed crew! Their eyes—how they twinkled! Their dimples how Merry! Their cheeks were like roses, their nose like a cherry! Their smiles were like sunshine, their laughs were many, They are tall and skinny and we know them as the BEST CREW of any! They spoke not a word, but went straight to work, Preparing what most just see as dirt! Rake Tim, Rake Ivor, Rake Tanner, and Rake Blue, Get It Done Before Carol Sees YOU! We were peeking in thru the slit of a door, When suddenly they heard us giggle and more……… Startled, they sprang to their feet & broke into laughter One that will last with Mile Hi for ever after! It is our greatest hope that all of you, Saw this sight and will welcome the year anew, With the same laughter, excitement, energy & fun That those of us with Mile Hi have done!
