U.K. and U.S. Banks Plan Joint Cyber Security Attack Test Bloomberg (01/16/15) Hutton, Robert Banks in both London and New York will conduct an exercise later this year to simulate a massive cyberattack on their computer systems to test their resilience. The simulation is part of a program under which the U.S. and U.K. governments will carry out joint war games. The program will boost cooperation against cybercrime and terrorism in the wake of incidents such as last years hacking of Sony Corp. The two nations will set up a trans-Atlantic “cyber cell,” at which U.S. and U.K. computer-security experts will share information and coordinate responses to attacks. This is an evolving threat which poses a real risk to our businesses and that’s why we’re taking our cooperation with the U.S. to an unprecedented level, Prime Minister David Cameron said in a statement from Washington. Agencies from both countries, as well as the Bank of England and commercial institutions, will participate in the first cyber-security simulation, which will be followed by more exercises to test the durability of critical infrastructure. The U.S. National Security Agency and the FBI are running their own cyber cell, matched by one in the United Kingdom and staffed by MI5 and GCHQ. A scholarship program has also been set up to encourage research into computer security.
