U.P. in the Visayas was first built between 1933-35 as the old Iloilo City Hall. The structure was designed by Architect Juan Marcos Arellano with magnificent sculptures by Francesco Riccardo Monti. It was inaugurated in 1936, taken over by the Japanese Imperial Army between 1942-45, and turned over by then Iloilo City Mayor Fernando H.
