U.S. Attorney Kerry Harvey told the paper that his office has made a commitment to put a particular focus on overdose deaths. Anyone convicted of the federal charge of illegally selling a drug resulting in a death faces 20 year minimum prison sentence and possibly life in prison. “What we hope to do is to convey the message to drug dealers that they are taking a real risk with not only the lives of the people that they sell this poison to, but also with their own lives,” Kerry told the paper.
