U.S. Representative Colleen Hanabusa (HI-01), a member of the House Armed Services Committee, voted today to approve the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), which authorizes $577 billion for defense-related programs in Fiscal Year 2015 and a 1% across-the-board pay increase for military personnel. The bill includes nearly $200 million for military construction in Hawaii, which includes upgrades to critical infrastructure and training assets in the state, as well as allowances for the higher costs of construction in Hawaii. “Although I’m disappointed that Hawaii’s federal military construction funding is cut in half in this bill, continued investment in Hawaii’s military facilities ensures that our state remains the crux of our nation’s rebalance to the Asia Pacific region,” Hanabusa said. “Most importantly, these projects will provide an economic boost to our local economy.”
