U. S. SENATE VOTES AGAINST KEYSTONE XL PIPELINE Tuesday night, - TopicsExpress

U. S. SENATE VOTES AGAINST KEYSTONE XL PIPELINE Tuesday night, the Senate voted down the construction of Keystone XL, the pipeline that would transport petroleum from Canada to the Gulf Coast. The vote, which was 59-41, was put off by Senate majority leader, Harry Reid of Nevada, in fear that it may have effected recent elections. The House has voted multiple times in favor of the pipeline even though the impression was left that President Obama would reject the bill. “It certainly is a piece of legislation that the president doesn’t support,” White House press secretary Josh Earnest said, “because the president believes that this is something that should be determined through the State Department and the regular process that is in place to evaluate projects like this.” According to a Washington Post-ABC News poll from May, 65 percent of Americans think the pipeline should be built.
