U.S.—BORN DOMINICAN AMERICANS CALLED TO JOIN A LONG MANHATTAN - TopicsExpress

U.S.—BORN DOMINICAN AMERICANS CALLED TO JOIN A LONG MANHATTAN MARCH IN SOLIDARITY WITH THE CHILDREN OF HAITIAN IMMIGRANTS BORN IN THE DOMINICAN REPUBLIC In response to the recent TC/0168/13 sentence by the Constitutional Court of the Dominican Republic denying and nullifying the Dominican nationality of persons born in the Dominican Republic to “in transit” immigrant parents since 1929, a spontaneous group of Dominican-Americans born in the United States to Dominican immigrant parents has requested a permit to the New York Police Department to conduct a march along dozens of blocks in Manhattan on Saturday, November 16th to express rejection to the retroactive enforcement of the sentence and in support of the right of persons born in the Dominican Republic to maintain the Dominican nationality. “Due to the limited number of people, fifty, that the New York Police Department apparently allows to march in a route this long (from Upper Manhattan to Times Square, where the General Consulate of the Dominican Republic is located), we have decided to focus this call first upon the children born in the United States to Dominican immigrant parents and who feel offended with this attempt to deny nationality to our fellow children of immigrants born in the Dominican Republic to Haitian immigrant parents,” said Anthony Stevens-Acevedo, one of the march promoters. Those Dominican-Americans willing to march may call 201-655-0075 or 347-545-2633 by telephone or send an email to [email protected] or visiting the Facebook group “We are all Dominican.”
