U.Srinivas, the famous maestro of Mandolin is no more. Srinivas became popular for his extraordinary skills on playing Mandolin (is originally a China musical instrument) and storming into the field of instrumental music that too, Carnatic music field at the age of 10 years and carved a niche for himself. His innate motivation,musicality, razor sharp mind, command over his speed and range, effortlessness in playing mandolin, really won him many admirers. His music transcended genres and frontiers. He won the appreciation of many stalwarts in the field of Carnatic music. Late Lalgudi G. Jayaraman and many famous musicians, singers and politicians. Famous singers like S.P.Bala Subrahamanyam,Shankara Mahadevan, Lata Mangeshkar, Sonu Nigam, Tabala Maestro Zakir Hussain, The great music director Ilayaraja and last but not least, the Prime Minsiter Sri Narendra Modi are among those who condoled his untimely demise.( he was only 45 years old). God loves great persons who proved themselves and takes them early to his abode. Today, U.Srinivas cremation takes place at Chennai. His demise is a great loss to music. May his soul rest in peace. His smiling face and gestures while performing on mandolin are incomparable and irreplaceable. We miss him tremendously.
