Founded in 1997, we are motivated by the love that God has shown the world and having experienced his love and grace ourselves, it continue to inspire us to help individuals in need. U-turn Homeless Ministry seeks to appoint an Events Fundraiser. This is a paid position available as either a full-time or part-time position. The Marketing and fundraising team consist of: The Director who focus on formal fundraising opportunities e.g. grant applications, tenders and call for proposals & public speaking events; A Volunteer manager who recruits, trains up and then places volunteers in U-turn; A new position for a Marketing fundraiser who will use their marketing and research skills to raise awareness and attract regular donations to U-turn; And lastly, this new Events based Fundraiser who will execute U-turn’s events based fundraising and/or fundraising via PR events. U-turn’s events based fundraising include: PR events (Friend Events (e.g. Breakfast/Dinners), AGM, World Homeless Day, Stalls at Church/Community Fairs); and sporting events (such as Cape Town Cycle Tour, Comrades, Big Walk, Two Oceans Marathon, and individual endurance events e.g. running the wall of China etc.); other events based fundraising e.g. sponsored dinners etc.... Activities for sporting events might include: Register U-turn with the event organizers and secure spaces for us; Attract activists that can participate on behalf of U-turn, ie Work with marketing team to advertise the event and get invites out & track RSVPs; Establish relationships with corporate sponsors who might assist to make the events more profitable and engaging: be it venues, catering, prizes, or entertainment, continue to sponsor the work and/or send volunteers to participate; Assist activists to raise money (tips, GivenGain Registration, information about U-turn, FAQs etc.); Organize all U-turn kit for the activists (from sourcing manufacturers to getting kit to collections); Executing & on the day support – (additional or unique hours). Set up and take down of U-turn stands for supporting and advertising, organizing support teams; Follow up after the event with personal calls, Pledge follow-ups etc. Activities for PR events might include: Make all arrangements for venue, catering, displays, and speakers; Work with marketing team to advertise the event and get invites out & track RSVPs; Establish relationships with corporate sponsors who might assist to make the events more profitable and engaging: be it venues, catering, prizes, or entertainment, continue to sponsor the work and/or send volunteers to participate; Executing and on the day support – (additional or unique hours). Set up and take down of U-turn stands for supporting and advertising; Follow up after the event with personal calls, Pledge follow-ups etc. Target: Raise a minimum of R600 000 per annum through events and regular donations thereafter. Requirements: Working knowledge of fundraising for non-profits e.g. Research, how to cultivate relationships with prospective supporters, How to ask them to get involved, & steward on-going relationships with the organization; Knowledge of sporting events in South Africa or ability to do research to find necessary knowledge; Fundraising compliance (section 18A, BBBEE, PBO, POPI, CPA); Knowledge of Salesforce is advantageous. Training will be provided on how to utilize this CRM tool; Have a driver’s licence & be fluent in English; Be good with computers (Microsoft Word, Excel, Internet, Email essential) and love technology; Strong business and administrative skills such as planning and strategy skills, ability to organize people and meet deadlines, ability to negotiate with outside service providers; Have an eye for detail, value precision, accuracy; An excellent communicator (both written and verbal) that is able to communicate with multiple groups (both small and large groups), using various mediums (FB, email, phone, website, in person); A resourceful person that is flexible and able to adapt to situations, not easily flustered, this person needs to be able to think on their feet; Needs positive and connecting personality. This person will be building partnerships with the public, donors and businesses and needs to have a friendly, positive, and professional manner; Willing to learn and grow with the job.
