UB School of Nursing Geriatric Scholarship Available The Community Health Foundation of Western and Central New York and the UB School of Nursing are offering a $1500.00 scholarship to two Graduate Nurse Practitioner students who are focusing on the care of the geriatric population as an advanced practice nurse. The purpose of the scholarship is to increase NP exposure to the needs of the elderly (those over 65 years) in the community as well as in assisted and skilled nursing facilities. The geriatric experiences may help stimulate a potential Capstone Project. Funds may be used for tuition or project-related needs. Recipients must agree to: • enroll in the elective course N522 Issues in Geriatric Management (offered every Spring semester) • document a minimum of 100 clinical hours within their program’s clinical practicum that focuses on care of the geriatric patient • participate in activities related to the Visiting Scholar Program, which include monthly webinars Eligibility: second year AGNP, FNP, and PMHNP students in good academic standing If interested, the applicant should submit the following to Dr. Carolyn Montgomery [scholarship’s faculty advisor] at [email protected]: • current CV/resume • recommendation from student’s program coordinator • a short statement (250-500 words) detailing interest in expanding their geriatric nursing skills and how they will use this knowledge in future practice • statement of agreement to seek employment for at least 1 year in a setting that cares for geriatric patients Deadline: September 15, 2014
