UBER VOLKSWAGEN CHARITY DRIVE WITH THE STARS KUALA LUMPUR, December 12, 2014 – Volkswagen Malaysia in partnership with Uber, the smartphone app which matches riders to drivers, has collaborated for a one-day only charity drive event, the first such partnership in Malaysia. As part of the initiative, over 50 celebrities were driving their favorite Volkswagen cars, all in the name of raising funds for charity. All fares raised from these trips will be channeled towards the celebrities’ charities of choice. Volkswagen and Uber will also be contributing towards these charities, based on the number of trips completed by the celebrity drivers. Uber Volkswagen Charity Drive with the Stars rolled out with celebrity-picked vehicle models of choice including the Scirocco, Tiguan, Touareg, Beetle, Polo, Passat, Golf, Jetta and Cross Touran, to name a few. Mr. Armin Keller, Managing Director of Volkswagen Malaysia said, “As a leading mobility provider, we at Volkswagen are very excited for the opportunity to give back to society. This is of course consistent with our newly-unveiled tagline, Always by your side. We are thrilled with this partnership with Uber and to spread some cheer this festive season.” The celebrities who took part in this charity drive include Sazzy Falak, Ean Nasrun & Jinnyboy, Afdlin Shauki, Joyce Wong, Yasmin Hani, Lisa Surihani, Dynas Mokhtar, Sheena Liam, Reshmonu, Phat Fabes, JJ, Moots Shuvit, Sarah Lian, among others. “To show our appreciation to our loyal Uber riders, we decided on an on- demand event where all parties could get involved in the spirit of giving with the simple press of a button. We are expecting a fun-filled day which will be memorable for both the celebrity drivers and the riders,” said Lakshmi Patmarajah, Head of Marketing for Uber Malaysia. In the run up to the charity drive, the celebrities familiarized themselves with their cars complete with a full Uber partner driver training provided by teams from Volkswagen and Uber. Both drivers and their vehicles were also covered by the necessary insurance for the day.
