This West Hollywood institution is the place to meet old friends, make new ones, enjoy drinks and grub and just kick back and have fun. Oct. 18 — Griffith Park Hike and Lunch Part of Ivy Pride Alliance LA, of which UCLA Lambda Alumni is a participating member. Join friends and colleagues for a low-key morning of hiking in one of Los Angeless most renowned outdoor spaces. Griffith Park, also known as the Central Park of Los Angeles comprises over 4210 acres of rugged land that forms the backdrop for numerous movie adventures in the great outdoors. Together, we will explore the Griffith Observatory Loop, which includes spectacular views of Los Angeles and the Observatory. After the hike is over, we will meet for lunch at the Trails Cafe. Sunscreen and adequate water is recommended. We will meet directly at Trails, a short distance from the trailhead. Street parking is available near the restaurant and nearby around the Fern Dell Picnic Area. When: Saturday, Oct. 18, 10:00–1:00 p.m. Where: Griffith Park Observatory Loop Trail. Three hot LA-based women authors--Dawn Kohler, Wendy Ortiz, and Deanna Neil--are releasing inspiring new books this fall, and were going to celebrate with them at the Last Bookstore--an amazing DTLA indie bookshop. Come join us for a one hour reading / discussion, followed by a book signing. Afterwards, well wander over to the Spring St. Bar (626-B S Spring St, DTLA) for their fantastic happy hour. Join us on Saturday, November 15, 2014, for the 13th annual pilgrimage to San Diego aboard “The Silver Lariat”. This beautifully restored vintage private rail car will travel between Union Station (Downtown LA) and San Diego. Our hosts are UCLA Anderson alumni, Burt Hermey, and Al Bishop. During the 2 hr journey, sit back and relax in the glass domed upper viewing deck enjoying the scenery, ocean views, and free flowing chilled champagne, mimosas and soft drinks along with a selection of brunch fare. On arrival in San Diego you are at leisure for 4 hrs where you may: Take a harbor cruise over to Coronado Island for lunch, visit Hillcrest or the Gaslamp District, go to the zoo, shop! We are looking for a couple of alums to help staff a table and spread the word to the UCLA community about the UCLA Lambda Alumni Network.
