UFC 168 PPV buys: Dana White predicts Weidman vs. Silva 2 will outdraw UFC 167 and be biggest event in history There is no denying the anticipation combat sports fans are feeling for the 2013 fight campaign to end. Thats because on Dec. 28, 2013, Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) will stage two of the most highly-anticipated rematches in mixed martial arts (MMA) history as current middleweight champion Chris Weidman takes on former division kingpin Anderson Silva, while womens bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey defends her title against bitter rival Miesha Tate at UFC 168 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Not to mention a pivotal heavyweight showdown between Josh Barnett and Travis Browne. In fact, UFC President Dana White believes it will outdo the promotions 20th anniversary show, UFC 167, which features a welterweight title fight between champion Georges St-Pierre -- the companys biggest draw -- taking on Johny Hendricks with a co-main event pitting Chael Sonnen -- UFCs second biggest draw -- against Rashad Evans on Nov. 16, 2013. Furthermore, White even went as far as to say the year-end event will prove to be the biggest pay-per-view (PPV) show his promotion has ever done. His bold prediction came during recent UFC Fight Night 31 conference call: Georges St. Pierre is our biggest pay-per-view star. Chael Sonnen argues with me and disagrees with me, of course because hes on the card, and Georges St. Pierre is obviously the biggest star we have in pay-per-view, but I think 168 will beat it. As we get closer, you get more of a feeling on what youre going to do. I know this is a bold prediction, but I think 168 is going to be the biggest pay-per-view weve ever done. UFC 168 will have some rather high stiff competition if it wants to claim the top spot. Mainly UFC 100, which pulled in an estimated 1.5 million PPV buys, though the actual numbers were never made public, seeing as how UFC is a private company. Thanks, Brock. Nevertheless, White is confident that two of his biggest stars, Silva and Rousey, will help UFC 168 nab the top spot and pull bigger numbers than Rush will when he takes on Bigg Rigg in Sin City six weeks earlier.
