UJU CONDEMNS SUSPENSION OF RADIO POLITICAL TALKSHOW HOST KAMPALA – FRIDAY – AUGUST 8 – 2014 The Uganda Journalists Union (UJU) condemns in the strongest terms possible suspension of Political Talk – Show host Mr Goodluck Musinguzi by Kabale based Hope FM radio allegedly on the orders of Kabale Resident District Commissioner (RDC). According to well placed sources in Kabale District, Mr Musinguzi’s indefinite suspension is a culmination of disagreements between him and the RDC Mr Darious Nandinda . The conflict arose out of the manner with which the Journalist hosts guests during his Political Talk – Show popularly known as “Tuhanure”( Lets discuss). The sources said Hope FM Radio Proprietor Bishop Aloysius Kiiza under Political Pressure convened a meeting with the RDC on Monday August4, 2014 before the Journalist was given verbal suspension on Tuesday August 5, 2014 via his mobile telephone. Ironically the Journalist who was not given chance to defend himself on any offence, has never been issued with any appointment letter or Employment Contract contrary to Section 66, Sub – Section (2) of the 2006 Employment Act. UJU President Lucy Anyango Ekadu condemned the suspension of Mr Musinguzi, adding that Management of Hope FM Radio contravened Labour Laws and natural Justice. She said Management should rescind its decision and give the journalist chance to be heard. “The suspension is one of the many acts of repression and intimidation by local authorities on Journalists in the country,” she said. Hope FM Radio Station Manager Mr Rogers Ruyondo, who is also brother to radio owner, said the journalist blew the matter out of proportion before hanging up and switching off his phone. Mr Edmond Muhumuza a Presenter with the radio was this week sacked under unclear circumstances while another Presenter Ms Claire Kamkama resigned to pre - empty looming sacking. Mr Musinguzi got himself into trouble early this year when he hosted KabaleResident District Commissioner together with the opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) former President retired Col Dr Kiiza Besigye in a talk – show. Later the RDC accused the Journalist of being biased and irresponsible by not protecting him against the opposition politician. Mr Musinguzi has since then been working under intimidation and harassment from local authorities who accuse him of working with opposition groups or people with divergent views to undermine the government.
