UK COURT SENTENCES GHANAIAN DRUG QUEEN TO 8 YEARS Nayele Ametefe aka Angel aka Ruby Adu-Gyamfi, who was arrested at the Heathrow Airport in London for possessing 12.5 kilos of cocaine, also had in her possession £23,000 at the time of her arrest. Additionally, the 32-year-old was said to be in possession of $6,000 which were all confiscated by the British Drug Enforcement Administration upon her arrest on November 10 last year. Nayele Ametefe, aka Angel was sentenced at the Isleworth Crown Court in London on January 6, 2015 to an eight-year and eight months jail term for transporting cocaine into the UK. Nayele was represented by a new lawyer, James Kobby but did not change her “guilty” plea. She will serve a total of 8 years, 8 months in prison. Prior to her arrest, Nayele boarded British Airways flight number BA 078 from Accra to London on 9th November, 2014. She had in her possession two suitcases of which only one of the suitcases was checked in (Baggage tag number BA 059801) and nothing of interest was found. In the other suitcase which was believed to be hand carried onto the plane, 10kgs of cocaine was found among her clothing. Ms. Nayele Ametefe travelled on Australian passport number P4187659 and not on Ghanaian Diplomatic passport as had earlier been reported. According to reports, security officials and intelligence agencies across 23 countries in Europe, Asia and the Americas had for the past three years been tracking Nayele Ametefe, who has managed in several instances to avoid arrest using various aliases. Her sentence includes community service and it is expected that she will serve half of her sentence in jail. The forensic analysis on the cocaine showed a 79% purity and the street value is estimated at about £1.8 million. She admitted in her first appearance via video link that she is guilty of the charges leveled against her; carrying cocaine into the UK. Nayale reportedly also had in her possession, £23,000 and $6,000 when she was arrested, which is currently in the custody of the UK Border agency, but the court is expected to set a new date to rule on the exact amount of money she had on her. The UK government will officially confiscate the said amount of money by July 6, 2015. There had been reports in the media on Monday that Nayele would reverse her earlier guilty plea. The prosecution had stated that she would get a minimum of 10 years and if the substance was in excess of 10kg she would get more, but her early guilty plea appears to have influenced the sentence.
