The project was delivered by UK firm, Solynta Energy. While the Filling Station owner is expected to recoup his return on investment in 24 months, the station will have a further 23 years of power for free, an equivalent of N95 million in fuel savings, according to its owners. Managing director of Bakka oil, Abdulrahaman Mohammed, said, “the installation of the 20KWp solar power system has been a great fillip for the Filling Station, as it has led to a significant reduction in the cost of power. “The noise and fumes from the generator, previously a constant problem has been eliminated completely, going solar has proved to be a tremendous investment for us, both financially and environmentally,” he said. He explained that the station’s 40KVA power generator before now, consumed 4.5 litres of diesel an hour costing about N345,600 a month, excluding regular maintenance and servicing costs.
