UK IN DEENCE OF ART AND AGAINST CENSORHIP Third World Bunfight AND Brett Bailey via Manick Govinda FROM MANICK GOVINDA: Good work Stella Odunlami and Claire Fox. I think you were both a powerful voice of reason. Lee Jasper might as well work for the BBFC or other state authorities who censor art and free speech. To say that the black community is unable to respond to Exhibit B and therefore it must be withdrawn is, in my opinion, an insult to black people. His argument implies that all black people are wounded, in trauma, pained, cannot cope with difficult subjects or work based on historical (slavery) and contemporary fact (immigration, asylum seekers, refugees). Unlike museums or history books or film, performance is an immediate, physical and very visceral experience. Its effect is entirely different. Exercise your free will - you can either take it or leave it, but dont take away other peoples freedom to choose.
