The United Kingdoms Labour Party is reconsidering its role inside the Party of European Socialists – the main centre-left party at European Union level – after a row over the nomination of Martin Schulz as the PESs candidate for president of the European Commission. Labour refused to endorse Schulzs nomination at a PES conference in Rome on 1 March because it views him as an advocate of ever-closer union – anathema for British voters.
