UK vs UL Player Break Down #1 Point Gaurd UK Andrew Harrison vs UL Russ Smith This matchup is no doubt a tough one for UK. Friday night Russ Smith will be the best COLLEGE basketball player on the floor without a doubt. He has every advantage a Senior PG should have. He played PG for a National Championship team & has as everyone likes to say he has Been there before So how can UK hope ,if at all, to gain an advantage in this matchup? As I said on KSR today you cant coach 65. Andrew is at a disadvantage in nearly every category (experience, quickness, decision making) that matters to a PG but he is bigger. And as we saw last Sunday vs Wichita St he does possess the ability to bully smaller guards to the rim and force contact. Wichita St PG Van Fleet had foul trouble almost right away because despite being a very talented lock down defender he simply could not keep Andrews big frame out of the lane and when he tried with the new hand check rules in college basketball this year he picked up cheap fouls. So my thinking on the PG matchup is simple. Russ Smith is better than Andrew Harrison. But if Andrew can create driving lanes as we have seen him do all year and get to the rim I think it leads to early foul trouble for Russ and UK gains an upper hand. If not look for Smith to lead UL on both ends and make things very tough on UK.
