UML blow to Bhuwan KC: (Nepal) ******************************************* CPN-UML has denied actor-cum-party cadre Bhuwan KC a ticket for the November 19 election from Kathmandu constituency-1 following an intense pressure within the party. A Standing Committee meeting of the party on Wednesday decided to scrap KC’s nomination after severe criticism within the party. UML local leaders and cadres were putting the party leaders under pressure to reconsider the nomination arguing that the decision sidelined dedicated cadres. UML leaders, however, said KC’s nomination was cancelled to fulfil low representation of women in the party’s candidate selection process. “We felt the need for changing the candidate in Kathmandu-1, to fulfil 33 percent representation of women in the election,” said Agni Kharel, chief of UML’s poll department. The party has picked Bidhya Neupane from Kathmandu-1. Informed sources say Neupane is unwilling to contest the election and local cadres have been mounting pressure on the party leadership to pick Bidur Mainali, the former Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City. Meanwhile, KC said that he was unaware of the UML’s decision and hasn’t formally been informed by the party. “Till noon I was told to collect my nomination document on Thursday. I am not aware of the recent decision” said KC.
