UMM . . . WHAT’S MY LINE? Phenyo annoys producers Published: Sunday, 2013/09/01 LAST month, Mzansi was shocked when news broke out that Phenyo was leaving SABC1’s soapie, Generations. But today Sunday Sun can reveal Phenyo’s (played by Melusi Yeni) exit was not about pursuing other interests. The SunTeam was told that he was shown the door after producers had complained that the actor didn’t take his job seriously. Insiders at Generations had already told the People’s Paper that Phenyo was “slow”. One insider said: “Melusi always forgets his lines. There were too many cuts because he kept on getting his lines wrong.”Another source revealed that Melusi wanted more money when actors were negotiating new contracts last month. The source said: “Producers complained to the soapie’s creator, Mfundi Vundla, about Melusi’s performance. He wasted the studio crew’s time. “He’s a good actor, but the problem lies with his (in)ability to narrate the story. “Video editors struggled to cut and paste Melusi’s words together.” Another well-placed source added: “Mfundi felt that he couldn’t give Melusi a raise as he struggled to say his lines from the script and this was holding crew members back.” When the SunTeam contacted Phenyo about the matter, he said: “I’m a professional and you should understand that people are always gossiping. “I did my job to perfection and I suggest you speak to Generations.” Sunday Sun contacted Mfundi and he asked us to send him an e-mail. Generations’ publicist Nyagunda Ngwenya responded by saying: “Melusi is a professional and talented actor. And Generations doesn’t cut and paste scenes!“We’re professionals. We’ve been around for 20 years and we’re still going strong.”
