UMNOs willingness to hear (not sure if they will give serious - TopicsExpress

UMNOs willingness to hear (not sure if they will give serious thoughts though) what students have to say should be welcomed. A bit of background information. 1. About half a milion Malaysians turn 21 (the voting age in Malaysia) annually. 2. 30% (2.4million) of the electorate in GE13 comprise of first time voters. 3. An estimated 70% of the 4.2million unregistered voters fall within the 21 to 40 year old gap. Hence, it is not surprising students make up the majority of the third force deciding who is the kingmaker in GE14. I strongly believe University students should be allowed to take part in politics. Whether you like it or not, every single decision made and action taken by the government will affect our daily lives. The implementation of GST in 2014, abolishment of fuel subsidy in December, decrease in PTPTN loas ranging 5% to 15%, RM8.4bil to RM7.4bil reduction in budget to higher learning institutions, increase in public spending, national debt of RM550bil, wider income disparity, rise in number of Malaysians earning below RM3,000 (about 80%) and so forth, has a knock on effect on every single Malaysian. Many folks living in the urban areas live modestly, but how much do we have in our bank accounts? How much PTPTN, car, housing loans have we accumulated? Many cant even afford a house or a new car. In Malay, its called kais pagi makan pagi, kais petang makan petang. Many are basically working to pay off debts. My second problem is the fact that such welcoming note is only extended to UMNO friendly students. What about those linked to the opposition? Charged with the UUCA/AUKU? Be fair and dont embrace this double standard practises. University students are future leaders of the country. It is at the university level students should start getting exposure. We are wise enough to differentiate the good from the bad.
