UN General Assembly begins 68th session today The 68th session of the United Nations General Assembly is beginning today. The theme for this session is sustainable development. Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh will address the conference on 28th September. During the session, India will focus on issues of sustainable development, counter terrorism, reforms of United Nations Security Council. The External Affairs Minister Salman Kurshid will have bilateral meetings with his counterparts from the US, Palestine, Libya, Egypt, China, and Germany. He will also participate in various multilateral meetings of Foreign Ministers like G-77, Commonwealth, IBSA, BRICS, SAARC, and Group of Four. India is hopeful of a positive result on the issue of getting permanent membership in United Nations Security Council before the summit on sustainable development in the year 2015.
