UN IRMCT JOB Opportunity IRMCT: Legal Officer (The Hague) This position is located in the Immediate Office of the Registrar, Registry, of the Mechanism for International Criminal Tribunals (“Mechanism”). Under the supervision of the Officer-in-Charge, the incumbent will advise on and independently handle complex legal matters in international public and private law, as well as administrative law. Key Responsibilities • Analyses international statutes and laws, assesses their impact on the exercise of the Mechanism’s mandate and prepares draft proposals for their implementation. • Undertakes review of legal documents, instruments or other material relevant to the mandate of the Mechanism, identifies issues of importance to the work of the Registry, and makes proposals for implementation. • Conducts extensive legal research and prepares studies, comparative studies, briefs, reports and correspondence. Key Requirements • Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in law, preferably in international law. A first-level university degree in combination with qualifying experience in law may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. • Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in law, including legal analysis, research and writing.
