UN Mission MINUSCA takes over the security of Bangui MPoko International Airport Translation by Karen Sullivan | LNC BANGUI – The UN Mission MINUSCA, on Monday, officially took over from EU Peacekeepers (EUFOR RCA), the security of Bangui MPoko International Airport. That was in a solemn ceremony attended by numerous officials with among Centrafrican senior government officials, representatives of international organisations, and both national and international figures, including MINUSCA, EUFOR-RCA & SANGARIS. The transfer of responsibility between the EUFORs infantry unit and the MINUSCAs blue helmets spread out over several weeks, and during both Forces have conducted joint operations in the aim of maintaining an identical security commitment for air operations and for populations. For the European Unions mission which will continue to provide its support to blue berets deployed in M Poko, the ceremonial transfer of instructions constituted one of parts of its realizations as a bridge towards MINUSCA, within the framework of the progressive transition between both Forces, till its end in March 2015. Ensuring the security of the Bangui Airport and its surroundings remains the highest priority for these both international Forces. It is in this perspective that engineering unit of EUFOR have recently conducted restoration of the access road to the stopover, as well as the structures of control of the airport. For its part, MINUSCA has committed itself to ensuring the same security standard around the airport area, and support the economic development endeavors of the country, and the Airport constitutes one of its cornerstones as being the only point of international access of the country.
