UNA and Alberta Health Services are closing in on a new four-year contract with the province’s Registered Nurses that could see pay rates rise by more than seven per cent, the Edmonton Journal reported. After 14 months of bargaining, AHS, Covenant Health and the United Nurses of Alberta jointly announced yesterday that their negotiating teams have all agreed to terms and conditions recommended by a mediator assisting with the talks, the Journal’s Keith Gerin wrote. “It’s certainly an improvement to what we faced when we entered negotiations during the Bitumen Bubble era,” UNA President Heather Smith told the Journal. UNA recommends that the mediator’s recommendations be ratified.
