UNAMA Featured Photos: The United Nations today held a ‘dry run’ of the data entry process of the checklists from the audit of the results of Afghanistans Presidential election, which will form the basis of the reports going to the countrys Independent Election Commission (IEC) on which it will base its decisions regarding the validity of ballots cast in the 14 June run-off. Shown here, various experts test the process at a location at the IEC headquarters in the capital, Kabul. At the same time, the world body is also looking to increase the number of its advisors taking part in the ongoing audit of some 23,000 ballot boxes taking place at the IEC premises. “We are looking at expanding processing capacity in the warehouses, bringing on more UN advisors to supervise the process because the UN is in a supervisory role here,” said the UN electoral expert supporting the IEC, Jeff Fischer. “We are moving ahead as quickly as possible because we know the Afghan people want to have a decision made about these elections and bring the process to closure.”
