UNC Charlotte is one of four Large Category finalists for the 2014 Wells Fargo Green Awards due to the Jerry Richardson Stadium Zero Waste Initiative! Eliminating landfill waste at the 16,000-seat Jerry Richardson Stadium was an objective first proposed by students. To accomplish this goal, it required significant campus- and community-wide commitment, collaboration, creative thinking, and a comprehensive education plan. The result: 82 percent of the waste generated during six home games was recycled (6.92 tons) or made into compost (12.99 tons), and 286 gallons of fryer oil were converted to biofuel. UNC Charlotte proved during the Charlotte 49ers 2013 inaugural football season that a zero-waste facility is achievable, and that sharply reducing a stadiums ecological footprint is socially and financially beneficial. The Wells Fargo Green Awards recognize member companies who have incorporated innovative, sustainable practices in the products they produce, the services they provide, and within the culture of their company. We believe the experiences shared and benefits realized through integrating sustainable practices into products, services, and culture by Charlotte area businesses have the power to inspire other area businesses to do the same. Please vote for UNC Charlotte at: charlottechamber/greenworks-program/wells-fargo-green-awards You are eligible to vote once a day until the polls close on October 31. Thank you!
