UNCW is helping commemorate the city of Wilmingtons 275th anniversary celebration with the planting of 275 native flowering ornamental trees along the Gary Shell Cross-City Trail on its campus! Marcia Doering, a certified arborist and UNCW crew leader, is coordinating the event with representatives from the Cape Fear Garden Club, the Wilmington Tree Commission and the 275th Anniversary Committee. Members of the campus community and the general public are invited to a ceremonial planting with Mayor Bill Saffo at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 21 at the corner of Rose Avenue and Riegel Road. Five trees, donated by Lowe’s Home Improvement Store, will be planted during the ceremony. Members of the Cape Fear Garden Club have donated funds to purchase another 270 seedling trees, which will be planted at a later time.
