UNDER 15’4S Defeated South Newcastle 46 to 10. With the weather taking a turn for the worst the game got underway with Souths making the kick off into the wind and unable to make the 10m line. Cody Argent took the tap from halfway and was able to get up close to the line but just couldnt get the ball over. With Souths running the ball back Dungog defended well, moving up and making solid tackles keeping Souths up their end of the field. After winning the scrum Steven Muddle scooted through the defence to score the first try of the game. With playing conditions getting worse ball handling errors increased from both sides making for plenty of scrums. After a few of these scrums Dungog had possession and the quick precise passing out the line got the ball into Braydon Porters hands who managed to get across the line to score and then convert his own try. From the restart the combination of Cody and Big M, both making big runs, had Dungog in another handy position. This time the ball got out to the other centre Jack Thompson and he was able to run around the opposition to score with Bryson converting in terrible conditions. Dungog was showing very good defence with Cody, Blake Fisher, Harry Boorer making text book tackles to keep the opposition from breaking through, however Souths did have a stroke of luck getting the ball back from the kick after the 5th tackle when it bounced off one of our players, giving them the opportunity to score their first try. Dungog soon responded though with another try shortly after when Bryson Braham confused Souths with a few dummy passes to score under the posts complete with another successful conversion. With blustery winds and rain holding on to the ball was becoming harder and the game seemed a succession of dropped balls and scrums from one of these the ball was passed out to Ian Brockwell to score a try. Dungogs next try came when Harry Boorer made a well executed kick towards the corner which Will Rooke was able to get a hand on to score. Dungog was in a try scoring frenzy when Steve Muddle made one of his signature runs from the scrum win to effortlessly get through the waning defence to score his 2nd try. Steve backed this up with a good run from the restart which set up the next try when the ball got back out to Ian who darted through a gap to score his 2nd try. It didnt go all Dungogs way with Souths managing to break through our tiring defence now and get in a late try with only a few minutes to go, but Dungog finished the game off when right on the bell Will Rooke put the ball down over the line for his 2nd time as well making the final score 46-10. Points this week go to Harry Boorer 3, Blake Fisher 2, Steve Muddle & Ian Brockwell 1.
