UNITED PLANNING ORGANIZATION VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT POSITION: Housing Counselor (Full-time) DEPARTMENT: Community Reinvestment Division BULLETIN No: 05112014 SALARY RANGE: $35,000 to $41,000 annually OPENING DATE: 11/24/2014 CLOSING DATE: Open until filled FIRST SOURCE: N/A Brief Description: Provide comprehensive housing counseling services to targeted customers. Deliver one-on-one foreclosure, rental and pre-purchase counseling to clients seeking housing assistance. Review client documentation to determine client’s housing needs. Conduct occasional workshops for clients on issues such as foreclosure prevention, budget building, credit issues, money management, homeownership and unfair lending practices. Conduct pre-closing sessions for clients finalizing the purchase of a home. Communicate with clients, community groups, lending institutions, landlords and governmental agencies in a professional and timely basis. Prepare required monthly, quarterly, and annual reports. Coordinate with clients to prepare loan modification documentation for lending community. Provide follow-up for cases and develop case notes, manage filing system, and enter client data in program database. Answer questions regarding housing services, share program information, and attend outside meetings with collaborating agencies. Assist with special projects assigned by the Housing Services program manager or senior management. Minimum Qualifications: High School Diploma or GED and four years of experience as a comprehensive Housing Counselor. Applicants must obtain Comprehensive Housing Counseling Certification within 12 months from initial hire date. Excellent communication skills. May be required to work some evenings and weekends. Desired Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree with at least two (2) years of specialized experience in the financial industry, mortgage counseling and/or real estate. Experience in providing direct services to cultural and socio-economic diverse communities. Bilingual preferred. Must maintain certification as a homeownership counselor. Other Requirements: In the event that an offer is extended, the candidate will be required to successfully complete a criminal background check and/or FBI Fingerprinting, pre-employment physical examination and drug screening as applicable for the position.
