UNITED WE STAND, DIVIDED WE FALL - I used to interpret that saying to mean that while we are standing, we stand together, and when we fall, we fall one by one. I guess my mind works in a different way. Of course, I see that when we are united, we can surely stand; when we are divided, we will surely fall. Now I have to work on what it means to be divided, because if being divided is defined by some of the things I see on my wall, then our country will surely fall within the next 50 years. We divide ourselves in so many ways - gender, color, economic status, education, political affiliation, etc. Yet, in the dividing, we also see the desire to associate with others who think and believe as we do. So the irony is in our dividing, we dont want to be isolated. Just some simple musings on this Tuesday morning.
