UNIVERSITY OF JOS INTRODUCED 10 NEW COURSES The University of Jos has introduced 10 new programmes following the approval by the National Universities Commission, Vice Chancellor of the institution, Professor Hayward Mafuyai disclosed this while briefing newsmen at the senate chamber of the institution. The Programmes are Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mining Engineering, Criminology and Security Studies. Others are Music, Physical and Health Education, Integrated Science, Veterinary Medicine and Agriculture. According to Prof. Mafuyai, the University recently hosted several resource evaluation teams from the NUC to assess the human and material resources for the establishment of the new programmes, adding that approval has been given for the establishment of the programmes effective in the 2014/2015 academic session. He assured that the university will continue to introduce programmes that will maximally impact on the nations natural resources in addition to ensuring food security and technological development. According to Mafuyai, the establishment of an engineering programme was long overdue given the long history of mining activities on the Plateau such that the university could be a ttransformation agent that would bring about the adoption of best practices in the mining sector in Plateau and the country at large
