UNKNOWN AIRMAN FROM WW1 IDENTIFIED In the small communal Rechicourt-Le-Chateau (Ruxingin) cemetery in the Moselle district of France, is a single Commonwealth grave amid those of French soldiers. It is the resting place of 2nd Lt Norman Hugh Wildig who had joined Squadron 104 with the newly formed Royal Air Force. He was an observer on a plane as it took part in a bombing raid on the 7th July 1918 but became engaged in an aerial battle with the enemy over Moselle in which he lost his life and reported as missing He was just 19. He was buried as an “unknown soldier” until his body was exhumed in February 1921 and his name placed on his headstone.
