UNTUCK YOUR TAILBONE! I hear teachers sometimes advising students - TopicsExpress

UNTUCK YOUR TAILBONE! I hear teachers sometimes advising students to tuck their tailbone in order to activate the abdominals. Yikes! Your abs and pelvic are separate, and we can learn to move them independently of one another. Tucking your tailbone creates a posterior pelvic tilt; which many of us are already doing from HOURS of daily sitting. It diminishes the lumbar c-arch which is the natural design of the spine. This can cause sciatic pain, low back issues, and compression of your low organs. In yoga, maintain a neutral pelvis (your pelvis is a bowl... imagine balancing it so its contents dont spill. When sitting, come to the front of your sit bones and lift the belly.
