UPADTE from Civil Defence NZ: The Tsunami Expert Panel has advised the Ministry that with the Solomons earthquake downgraded to 7.6 there is now no tsunami threat to New Zealand. However, people should expect stronger and unusual currents on the coast, especially in harbours or estuaries. People in boats or at the beach, should be particularly careful. The stronger and unusual currents are likely to last all day.
