UPDATE--BEAVER CREEK FIRE AS OF 10:04 PM --- Beaver Creek Fire Visible Along Highway 75 Corridor Residents and business owners along Highway 75 north of the Town of Hailey saw the flame front of the Beaver Creek Fire moving east across ridge tops and valleys near War Dance. The fire is still several miles from the highway in this area. There was also active fire growth in the Deer Creek drainage with crown runs observed in timber stands. On the northern perimeter, the fire advanced to within one mile of the Baker Creek drainage. The fire grew larger today aided by gusty winds, low humidity and an unstable air. Due to the increase of burned acreage, fire containment decreased to 11 percent. Today’s fire weather conditions are forecasted to repeat on Thursday and Friday. Predicted instability, gusty winds and low relative humidities have already led to a Red Flag Warning being issued for the region by the National Weather Service. A pre-evacuation order was issued at noon today for residents located in the upper drainage of Deer Creek, west of the Big Wood River. The pre-evacuation order issued by the Blaine County Sheriff’s Office occurred because the fire reached a pre-planned management action point established by the incident management team and agency cooperators. A second pre-evacuation order was issued later in the afternoon for Greenhorn Gulch residents. Issuance of these pre-evacuation orders provides residents in these communities time to prepare for possible evacuations. Blaine County government is also providing options for transporting and boarding horses that may be in the path of the wildfire. Accompanying this second order, the fire suppression management moved to a Unified Command that includes the Great Basin Incident Management Team, Ketchum Fire Department and Wood River Fire & Rescue. More personnel and equipment resources have joined the firefighting effort in the past 24 hours. Firefighters now number over 500 and include an additional five engines from local fire departments to support structure protection and patrol where the fire perimeter is nearing residences along Deer Creek Road.
