UPDATE- Granite City father found guilty of breaking infant son’s ribs A Granite City man was found guilty of breaking his 7-week-old son’s bones. An expert doctor in the field of child abuse testified Wednesday that the alleged victim of defendant Kamryn Kerr suffered 16 rib fractures, a fractured skull fracture, liver damage and a broken leg as a result of “abusive force to an infant.” Kamryn Kerr, 20, was found guilty on four counts of aggravated battery to a child, all Class X felonies punishable by six to 30 years in prison. His trial lasted two days, and the jury received the case at about 3 p.m. Thursday. By 4:45 p.m. they had issued a guilty verdict on all counts. Granite City Police were called to Gateway Regional Medical Center on Sept. 8 on reports that a male infant had suffered multiple fractures to his ribs. Later examinations showed further fractures to ribs, leg and skull, which led to the three additional charges against Kerr. “This innocent and helpless child knew only pain and misery at the beginning of his life,” said State’s Attorney Tom Gibbons. “This little boy had a tragic start to his life, and my prosecutors will seek a lengthy prison sentence to ensure the defendant isn’t able to hurt another child again.” The boy’s mother, Ashlee Wethington, has also been charged with aggravated battery to a child. Her case is still pending in Madison County Circuit Court. The boy remains in foster care and will not have permanent disability from his injuries, according to the state’s attorney’s office. Kerr faces a sentence anywhere from 24 to 120 years in prison, of which he will be required to serve 85 percent.
