UPDATE- TWOTH Contestant Bruce ODell: With EQUITANA only a matter of weeks away we are due for a media update - we have been asked what process we are undertaking and what preparations we are making in order to prepare for the big event - starting young horses under saddle is an every day process for us - we currently have 18 personalities undergoing their starting process , all different breeds, shapes colours and sizes, all with different personalities - a really nice mob of horses to work with, with varied disciplines ahead in their futures - gallopers, polo Cross, endurance , cutters and camp drafters you name them we have them here at present! We have been scheduled a day and time in order to present ourselves to the public, displaying what it is that we would like to portray to the public as an individual - I decided early on that I would go through my starting process - thats what I do , I start horses for a living- we do not have access to a round pen so my steps would be from once contact and halter contact has been made - to my anticipated end result- obviously this has to be compacted greatly as I only have a 45 minute slot to display a 5 week process - I considered taking an older horse that has had plenty of exposure but felt as a colt starter I would like to present a young horse to the public in order to truly display what I do -I have chosen to share with EQUITANA my Jamie - a 2yo by Dual Ray Badger - from day one this little man has been my buddy - he is smart , sensitive, responsive, and trusting - since his starting process he has been in and out of light work he will have had 14 weeks under saddle all up in his career - we gelled from the day I started him and we have never had a cross word or a bad day - we are mates - trust and respect are vital from both parties - I trust Jamie and have trust that our prior preparation is in place - I trust that we have an established relationship and the mutual respect that will allow us to work as a team - Jamie will put his trust in me for guidance - he looks at me with a soft big gentle eye , he trust me and I have every ounce of trust in him that he will melt your hearts with his kindness willingness and gentle sensible approach we both look forward to meeting you on Thursday 20th November from 4.00 to 4.45pm Happy educating, Bruce & Jamie ODell
