UPDATE: A 30 year old man remains in custody following his arrest in Moree Friday morning. Around 11.40am Friday (14 June 2013) a number of males shopping in the CBD of Moree were quick to apprehend the man after he snatched a woman’s handbag. Barwon Local Area Command Crime Manager, Detective Inspector Gavin Rattenbury said “investigators attached to operations targeting these offences are extremely grateful to the actions of members of the public this morning”. “This is a really good result for both Police and the community and one which wouldn’t haven’t occurred without the input from vigilant and community minded people” he said. Police arrived on the scene a short time later and took a 30 year old man into custody without incident. He was charged with Steal from Person and bail refused. His next appearance before Magistrate will be via Audio Visual Link (AVL) today (Monday 17 June 2013). Around 5pm Friday a second incident occurred in which an unknown male snatched a purse from a woman walking to her car. The offender is described as male of Aboriginal appearance, solid build, approximately 175cm tall wearing a blue hoodie and white shorts. Both victims were uninjured during their ordeals. Anyone who witnessed these incidents and has not yet spoken with Police is urged to contact Detectives at Moree Police Station.
