UPDATE: At this morning’s Osage Nation Congressional Appropriations Committee meeting, the committee learned there is no longer a spending shortfall, pending action on remaining appropriation and 2015 fiscal year bills that have yet to be considered. Chairman and Congressman John Jech told the committee the Nation no longer has a spending deficit thanks to the 6 percent tribal money spending cuts made to the six divisional budgets that contain the respective budgets for the Nation’s governmental departments and entities. As of Sept. 23, Jech said the Nation has a surplus of $683,330 with the six percent spending cut factored into the divisional budgets. The Congressional Office of Fiscal Performance and Review compiled the latest budget totals with its director, Kelly Corbin, serving as interim budget analyst. Jech said the appropriation and FY 2015 budget bills total $43.3 million, which is now under the $44,069,384 projected revenue figure for FY 2015. The $43.3 million sum includes pending and passed bills funded with tribal money including: Office of the Chiefs ($1.9 million), Legislative Branch ($2.4 million), ON boards/ commissions ($1.1 million), ON higher education scholarship fund replenishment ($4 million), Health benefit card fund replenishment ($6.4 million), Proposed fire suppression/ security system for the Osage Tribal Museum ($300,000) and $2.5 million for the Pawhuska dance arbor project. With the 6 percent cut required on tribal money spending, the total FY 2015 proposed tribal money spending for the six governmental divisions totals $22.6 million. The Tzi-Zho Session’s 24-day run ends Sept. 29 and FY 2015 starts Oct. 1.
