UPDATE: Authorities say Dupree traded Dukes TVs for dope. Authorities say telephone calls from a murder suspect to his drug dealer ultimately led to an arrest in the killing of 75-year-old Florene “Granny” Duke in her Douglasville apartment on Nov. 10. Information about the calls was among the details that came out in the initial hearing for Odes Dupree Jr., of Douglasville, who was denied bond Wednesday by Douglas County Chief Superior Court Judge Robert James. Dupree, 53, is charged with one count of robbery, one count of burglary, one count of felony murder and one count of theft by taking. Chief Assistant District Attorney Ryan Leonard told James during Wednesday’s hearing that law enforcement was “able to determine that (Duke’s) home phone had made numerous phone calls to an individual that was tracked to Atlanta, Georgia.” Leonard repeatedly referred to the drug dealer Dupree allegedly called from Duke’s home Nov. 10 as an “accomplice” in court. Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Jamie Harrell said Thursday the accomplice “was Mr. Dupree’s drug dealer” and that he “came out here and Mr. Dupree traded him stolen televisions from the scene for dope.” “We don’t have any indication that the drug dealer knew that Mr. Dupree had committed the homicide prior to him receiving the stolen property and giving him the dope,” Harrell said.
