(FOX13) - Memphis Police say they have located Dixie the dog, who has been missing for a week, and have three possible suspects in custody. A police spokeswoman said Raines Station officers located Dixie, who will be reunited with owners Lorie and Terry Travis of Alberta, Canada. Investigators say they received a tip that Dixie was in the 5200 block of Haleville, in Whitehaven. Officers took the dog to a Brooks Road Animal Hospital where they confirmed, via microchip, that the dog was actually Dixie. Police say charges have yet to be filed against the possible suspects. The Canadian couple was visiting Memphis last week to celebrate Elvis 80th birthday. They didnt even have a chance to check into their hotel when their beloved Yorkshire Terrier, Dixie, was stolen Jan. 7 from the parking lot at the China Inn on Elvis Presley Boulevard in Whitehaven, the night before Elvis birthday celebration at Graceland. While the Travises were eating inside, Dixie was kidnapped. Surveillance footage showed two black males tossing the dog in back seat of a car, and driving off. We stopped to have dinner, Lorie said Jan. 9. We come out and he broke into our truck and stole our dog. Over the course of the week while the search for Dixie continued, a Go Fund Me page called “Dollars for Dixies Safe Return” was established to help reunite Dixie with its owners. Like hell, all weve been doing is been on Facebook the last week, thats all weve been doing, posting everywhere we could and anyone we could think of, said Terry. Its just amazing, its a miracle really. We werent sure wed ever find her again or not. In a phone call with FOX13 News, Terry Travis said he and his wife are in the Houston metro area. Terry said he and Lorie are dropping everything and driving back to Memphis to be reunited with Dixie. They should be in Memphis by Friday morning. Despite the stressful experience the Travises say theyll be leaving Memphis this time not just with Dixie but also with a much better impression of the Bluff City. Im just overwhelmed, Terry said. The generosity and support weve been getting from people, a lot of people from Memphis and even the police department and everyone has been great.
