UPDATE: Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) Facts about Ebola can be accessed from who.int/csr/disease/ebola/en/ What is being done in South Africa? • The Government of South Africa continues to monitor the situation closely, and is strengthening its surveillance systems. There are no travel or trade restrictions for travellers from Guinea, Liberia, or Sierra Leone. The regulations for evidence of a valid yellow fever vaccination certificate apply. • In line with the Government’s commitment to International Health Regulations, they have developed protocols for the management of travellers with suspected diseases of infectious origin. Any ill persons reported on flights from Guinea, Liberia, Sierra Leone and neighbouring countries will need to be evaluated by the relevant Port Health officials. All requests for medical evacuation of persons from Guinea, Liberia, Sierra Leone or Mali with febrile illness or suspected infectious disease will need careful evaluation by the Port Health officials. • The National Institute of Communicable Diseases has issued a series of Alerts, which provide updated reports on the number of EVD cases reported regionally and any issues of relevance to South Africa health workers and the public nicd.ac.za/?page=alerts&id=5
