UPDATE Elderly man dies in head on crash in Tasmanias north A head-on crash between a car and a truck in Tasmanias north has claimed the life of an elderly Launceston man. Police say the 92 year-old man died on Bridport Road near Pipers River when his car crossed to the wrong side of the road on Sunday morning and crashed into an oncoming semi-trailer. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Acting Inspector Mike Gillies does not believe speed or road conditions contributed to the crash. It happened on a slight cresting bend but I dont believe that the road conditions contributed particularly (to) it, he said. It is unclear whether the man had fallen asleep. Theres not even any early indications that something like that has happened so we just have to wait until we conduct the investigation and hope that we can determine that at the end of it. The crash brings the states road toll for the year to 28.
