UPDATE FROM ELLEN Hello to all this cold, cold Friday. Seems like this statement is being said over and over again. What a winter to remember!!! Below zero temperatures many times and the snow that normally melts off so new snow can appear has not happened this season at all. We were warned about this, wow !!! This past week has been full of events. The infamous Super Bowl was held in an outside venue where the temperature was warmer than the two teams home cities at the time. The outcome of the game, who knew it would have such an outcome. I thoroughly enjoyed the commercials, VW Wings, I especially would like to see rainbows come out of butts; Budweiser Puppy & Horse; Radio Shack we want our 80s back and Doritos Time Machine to name a few. The Sochi Russian 2014 Olympics began on Thursday with the Opening Ceremony today. My family always watches the summer and winter Olympics and marvel at the ability of the athletes. Have heard the hotel conditions for some might not be the best but to be at an Olympics, another Wow. Just dont drink the water!!! Thursday night, CBS, 8:00 was the Big Bang Theory and Sheldon was on a Dinner Train with Amy Farrah Fowler. Had been viewing the previews all week and love the show. They called the train an Alcoa rather than Alco but the shows are always good with the cast and writing. Sheldon loves trains, we all know that!!! My last email noted the Owosso, MI event is July, that is INCORRECT, June 20-22 !!! Our Railroad Employees Reunion is Thursday, April 17, the 3rd Thursday and will be at the Good Shepherd Home, 725 Columbus Ave. lower level. They do have an elevator. Dinner will consist of Roast Beef, Baked Chicken, Mashed Potatoes and Gravy, Green Beans, Betty Salad, Desserts including Pie, Coffee, Lemonade and Iced Tea. Dinner cost is $15.00 and reservations are needed to have the appropriate dinners prepared, please. Guest speaker is Kelly Lynch, Communications Director of the Ft. Wayne RR HS, the NKP 765. We are excited to continue to have wonderful speakers for our spring event. We cannot assume what the weather will be but the snow should be gone!!! Have to keep repeating this, IF you do not wish to receive the ORDC Track Record, which is forwarded to you, please advise me. We can take your name of that list VERY easily. Thanks !!! This is not a good beginning for railfanning at the new rail park. Wow!!! The snow continues to pile up and the womens bathroom has frozen pipes. There have not been many railfans at the park but the die hard still come. We have been clearing the sidewalks and the city has been plowing the driveway and parking lot. Please be patient, winter is not forever, we will have green grass in sight eventually. Speaking about grass, even though it is winter and the ground is frozen, please walk on the sidewalks and driveways of the rail park, not the grassy areas. There are many mudded footprints in the grassy areas. The city will have to reseed and level the areas, please help by not adding to the mess. Remember, this is a free park, no charge to enter. Please be courteous and respectful. FRPS is trying to help when we can at the park and your help is always appreciated too. Please feel free to shovel the sidewalks if you are at the park, its good exercise!!! Have you read your March Trains Magazine copy??? The Fostoria Area Visitors Bureau has an ad in the magazine. Its worth your while to read it too!!! FRPS appreciates all Trains Magazine has done for Fostoria, thanks Matt & Brian !!! The LE&W Depot, W. North St, has had its share of snow too. Herm continues to shovel, Glenn uses his snowblower and Ellen & Wayne shovel the snow too. Someone anonymously cleared the sidewalks this week with their snowblower, THANK YOU !!! THANK YOU !!! Are you an FRPS member? No membership is too small to help our efforts. Many projects are to be completed this year, LE&W depot exterior painting, LE&W sign in front of depot, moving LE&W/NKP caboose to Fostoria are the priorities. More projects will be completed of course and the rail park is important with FRPS helping the city when we can. Membership form is on our website, FostoriaIronTriangle. Michael Harvey, St. Marys, OH, donated the scanner equipment which is presently on the D&N building. Michael said he is in hibernation until spring. We will have the scanner moved to the rail park platform area in the spring when its warmer and NO snow. Thanks Michael!!! February 27 is our next FRPS meeting with Exec. Board elections at the March 27 meeting. FRPS will advise what train shows we are planning to attend. This year the snow, ice and very cold temperatures have helped make decisions to limit our show attendance. I dont like driving in the wee hours of the morning in bad weather. Have a great weekend !!!
