UPDATE FROM TENT CITY-FREEZE THE FEES We are overwhelmed by the amount of support and positive attention our tent city action has received from students, staff and faculty over the past week. So many of you have expressed solidarity for our call for a system of education that is affordable and accessible for all. We are happy to announce that this morning after days of little communication, members of the Ryerson Administration finally reached out to members of the tent city, with an offer to meet and discuss our demands. We are asking for a freeze in tuition fees , a freeze in academic department cuts, and a plan to progressively reduce international student tuition fees until they are in line with domestic student fees. Although there is still no firm commitment that this is what we have to look forward to, this meeting is a huge step in the right direction. The university has told us that in order to institute a freeze it will cost the university $14 million dollars. We are confident that with some hard work, Ryerson can develop a budget that doesnt continue to place the burden on students. We still need your help! On Monday November 24 the Board of Governors ( the body that decides on tuition fee increases) will be meeting. We invite you to join us to attend that meeting to create a student presence and to let the deciding body know that we are watching and waiting for them to make decisions that put students first. Rally to Freeze the Fees Monday November 24 4:30pm Outside of Jorg Hall ( 380 Victoria st) Near the Tent City. In solidarity The Ryerson Students Union CESAR Members of the Tent City
